Identify the resistance target and plan treatment ahead

When MET amplification contributes to EGFR-targeted treatment resistance, blocking both EGFR and MET offers a mechanism-directed pathway. A specific regimen is available in China, and research involving Shanghai Chest Hospital specialists directly addresses this patient group.

A mechanism-matched targeted option after resistance

In June 2025, China approved savolitinib combined with osimertinib for eligible patients with advanced nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer. Requirements include progression after prior EGFR-TKI treatment and MET amplification; it does not apply to every form of targeted treatment resistance.

Seek to delay the next disease progression

Among all randomised SACHI patients, investigator-assessed median PFS was 8.2 months with combined targeted therapy versus 4.5 months with platinum-based chemotherapy. Study results do not predict individual response; chemotherapy and other options still need discussion.

Budget for both medicines and ongoing treatment

Dual targeted treatment involves paying for both savolitinib and osimertinib. Seek prices for both drugs, testing and follow-up on a fully self-funded basis for foreign patients without Chinese health insurance or free-drug assistance. The available historical single-box savolitinib price is for reference only.

Historical price for one box of savolitinib
RMB ¥5,289.90 per box; 200mg × 21 tablets, published by Suzhou Kowloon Hospital in 2024-06
Date limitations of the price
This published price predates approval of the combination indication in June 2025 and does not represent current combination treatment prices.
The second medicine
Osimertinib is charged separately; the hospital must confirm actual doses, strengths and current prices for both drugs.
Testing and ongoing treatment
Resistance testing, any additional biopsy needed, tests, follow-up and management of side effects are additional.
Costs associated with travel to China
Confirm medical and coordination services, interpreting, transport and accommodation as separate items.

No current personal or international patient quote is available for the combination. One box of savolitinib cannot be treated as the monthly or full-course cost of the combination, or used to promise a cost advantage. Confirm current drug supply, international patient acceptance and the start date with the treating hospital.

Finding treatment that fits you
starts with the reports you already have.

Clarifying your disease type and previous treatment helps establish whether this option could form part of a plan for you.

  • Original diagnosisEGFR mutation-positive locally advanced or metastatic nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer.
  • Previous treatmentDisease progression after EGFR-TKI treatment; list the drugs, treatment dates, dose adjustments and sites of progression.
  • Resistance mechanismMET amplification detected; a doctor must review the testing method, threshold and sample timing, and assess its relationship to resistance.
  • Avoid confusing different findingsMET amplification is not MET exon 14 skipping. MET protein expression, gene amplification, exon 14 skipping and fusion are not interchangeable; a separate savolitinib monotherapy indication cannot be directly applied here.
  • Overall assessmentConsider performance status, comorbidities, previous drug reactions and other options when deciding on the combination; do not combine medicines or change prescriptions yourself.

Which treatment comparison informs disease control after resistance?

SACHI compared savolitinib + osimertinib with platinum-based chemotherapy in lung cancer with EGFR mutations and MET amplification progressing after EGFR-TKI treatment. The figures below use investigator assessments for all randomised patients.

Median progression-free survival (PFS)
8.2 months for combined targeted therapy versus 4.5 months for platinum-based chemotherapy; investigator assessment of all randomised patients.
Study and applicability
A phase III randomised comparison; different prior-treatment subgroups and assessment methods may yield different figures. Subgroup outcomes cannot be treated as everyone's expected result.
Treatment pathway in China
The combination use for eligible advanced nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer was approved in June 2025; this page cites the original study disclosure dated 2026-01-14.
Other regions
Switzerland granted temporary approval for the related combination use in 2026, so it is not exclusive to China.

Median PFS is not overall survival or a promise of individual efficacy. MET amplification requires confirmation under specific testing criteria; the study does not mean every patient with resistance is suited to dual targeted treatment, and other indications cannot be directly substituted.

Lu Shun of Shanghai Chest Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and Wang Jie were co-principal investigators of SACHI, which directly focused on patients progressing after EGFR-targeted treatment with MET amplification. The team's lung cancer resistance research experience may inform specialist assessment, bringing together original EGFR results, post-resistance MET testing, prior drug generations and imaging progression before discussing combined targeted therapy, chemotherapy and other choices. Research experience does not confirm a partnership, drug supply or an appointment; the hospital must confirm the treating team, prescription, schedule and international patient charges.

Can I simply add savolitinib after osimertinib resistance?

No. Disease progression and the resistance mechanism must be confirmed, including whether MET amplification meets the regimen's criteria. The prescription also depends on performance status, comorbidities and alternatives. Do not combine drugs or adjust doses yourself.

Does “MET-positive” on my report mean MET amplification here?

Not necessarily. Protein expression, gene amplification, exon 14 skipping and fusion are different findings. The full report's method, threshold and sample timing are needed; “MET-positive” alone is not a basis for adding a drug. A savolitinib monotherapy indication also cannot be directly applied.

Can 8.2 months predict my outcome?

No. It is investigator-assessed median PFS for the combined targeted therapy group among all randomised SACHI patients, versus 4.5 months with platinum-based chemotherapy; it is not overall survival. Results for prior-treatment subgroups and different assessment methods cannot be mixed and do not represent an individual's expected outcome.

How much does a month of combination treatment cost?

There is no current complete quote. ¥5,289.90 is a historical published 2024 price for one box of savolitinib 200mg × 21 tablets, predating combination approval. Osimertinib, tests, follow-up and other costs must also be included. Do not extrapolate a monthly combination cost from this amount; request fully self-funded prices based on the actual doses and strengths of both medicines.

Must I repeat a biopsy or testing before consulting?

You do not need to arrange new tests yourself for an initial service consultation. Original and post-resistance samples, and tissue and blood tests, may give different results. The doctor first assesses whether existing information explains resistance, then decides whether further biopsy or testing is needed.

Which risks need attention with the combination?

Monitor for oedema, gastrointestinal effects, abnormal liver function and serious adverse effects such as pneumonitis. The monitoring plan should reflect existing disease, previous drug reactions and use of the two medicines together.

Is this combination available only in China?

No. The related combination use also received temporary approval in Switzerland in 2026. China's specific value is an established targeted treatment pathway and relevant clinical research experience; current supply, patient acceptance and scheduling still require hospital confirmation.
